1.1 MILLION DOLLARS RAISED AT 2009 EVENT
May 6-7, 2009: In the midst of tough economic times, Covenant House New Jersey was given a gift for their Night of Broadway Stars events, in Atlantic City and Newark. An anonymous donor agreed to match dollar for dollar every form of income generated from the event, including ticket sales, sponsorships, ads, donations, and silent auction proceeds. Thanks to the generous support of companies, donors, and ticket purchasers, by the time the stars took their final bow, the agency had raised over $1.1 million dollars. In the wake of recent cutbacks and layoffs statewide a few months prior, this could not have come at a better time. "At Covenant House, we have devoted ourselves to being there for our kids when they need us most - when no one else will," states Jill Rottmann, Executive Director.
"This year, as our nation's ability to give to others was dramatically constricted; our donors have been there for Covenant House, helping us to raise nearly $1.2 million at our 20th Anniversary Night of Broadway Stars celebrations. This unprecedented generosity was led by a humbly anonymous family who matched dollar-for-dollar $500,000 of the gifts made for these events. The collective kindness of our amazing community of supporters ensured that, during this difficult time, no beds were closed to kids on the street who are ready to change their lives."
