"Calypso Night" Raises Funds for CovenantHouse
New Jersey
MADISON: To the sounds of a steel drum band and
amid a Caribbean-themed setting, more than 250 area residents helped
raise more than $40,000 for Covenant House New Jersey on September
29th.
Staged under a giant tent at the Madison home
of Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Watson, the cocktail party and silent auction
was the 24th annual event sponsored by the Covenant House Morris
Area Auxiliary for the benefit of Covenant House's programs in
Newark and Atlantic City.
Jill Rottmann, Executive Director of Covenant
House New Jersey, told the gathering of some of the non-profit
agency's work in helping homeless, runaway, and other "at risk"
youngsters. One of the young people helped by Covenant House in
Newark, Jody Ann Sewell, was also on hand to describe to the attendees
her first-hand experience and how Covenant House has helped put
her life back on track.
This year's event chairperson was Pam Andersen
of Madison. The auxiliary is steered by a 28-woman Board of Directors
and currently headed by Liz Rosica of Madison.
"We thank all of the volunteers who made this
year's fundraiser such a success and all of the generous people
who turned out to help benefit such a worthy cause as Covenant
House" said Mrs. Rosica.
